The Hidden Threat at Kings Highway

A proposed development near Kings Highway and Route 57 may be outside Mansfield, but the traffic, safety, and infrastructure impact will not be. Here’s why we cannot afford to ignore it.

On April 21, I attended Washington Township’s planning meeting to hear details of a proposed development near Kings Highway and Route 57. While the project falls outside Mansfield’s borders, the impact will not stop there.

Airport Road and Route 57 is already a safety concern. It is uncontrolled, poorly marked, and known for near misses. Adding traffic from a large development will increase delays and raise the risk of serious accidents at this intersection.

On April 23, I brought these concerns to Mansfield’s Township Committee. I asked what action is being taken to protect residents. The response was vague. Right now, there appears to be no clear plan to push for a traffic study or speak up on behalf of the community.

A resident of Washington Township also contacted the Mansfield committee to raise the same concerns. They never received a response. That silence speaks volumes.

I will be attending the May 28 Township Committee meeting to address the issue once again. At that point, the committee will have had over a month to take action or begin developing a response plan. Our residents deserve answers and a clear strategy to protect Mansfield from outside developments that affect our safety and infrastructure.

This is not just about what happens in Washington Township. It is about standing up for Mansfield residents and making sure our safety is not overlooked while others make planning decisions.

Leadership means paying attention, asking questions, and acting before small problems become major ones. That is the kind of leadership I will bring.
